Klahowya Village in Stanley Park

Today a small group (5 of us) went to Stanley park.  All were welcome but not many signed up.  Two persons cancelled last minute.  This was a free day & time to spend with friends and discover this native village.  I (Laurette) have already been here twice but I was the leader and had this excursion arranged since the spring.  The Bonus was not just visiting the park but seeing performances, art and story telling that I had not known about in the spring.
We brought snacks and as well able to purchase food if needed.  Beautiful day, sunny and warm.  Got to love these sunny days.
Afterwards four of us continued walking along Lost Lagoon and finishing at English Bay.  Afterwards we all set off for home, shopping or where we wanted to go. We set off 10am & by 2pm heading home.

Today was the first for the season to play Boccie.  Sunny Mondays we will play Boccie in Victoria Park (short walk from the centre).  Rainy days we will play Brain Gym at the Al Mattison Lounge like we normally do.  Today there was five of us.  Vera, Barb, Marilyn, Ken and Laurette.  This was our first for the summer and enjoyed it. Everyone is welcome.  Show up at the lounge at 10:15am and we are off to the park by 10:30.

Lee's Flaming Britannia Bruins Relay for Life

Dear Team members, Relay for Life coordinator, friends & family!
Here It Is!

Painted by our most talented artist & team member Ann over the weekend. She explained to me that the different sizes of bears denotes that cancer strikes all sizes, shapes & ages. She has included all that we discussed at the team meeting (Relay for Life logo + daffodils symbol, bears carrying a Torch + flames). June & I think her work is very impressive & we thank Ann for her tremendous efforts.

Italian Card Players

Well winter is arriving when we start seeing this men daily in the centre, well nearly daily. During the warmer months they are in the local park enjoying the Sun & also playing boccie ball as well as cards. At least they are keeping their minds occupied & getting out of the house. We figure the wives are pleased to see them out & not under their feet. LOL
Scopa is an Italian trick-taking card game, and one of the two major national card games in Italy.[1] It is played with a standard Italian 40-card deck, mostly between two players or four in two partnerships, but it can also be played by 3, 5, or 6 players. The name is an Italian verb meaning "to sweep", since taking a scopa means "to sweep" all the cards from the pool. Watching a game of scopa can be highly entertaining an activity, since maintaining that lively and colorful, and somewhat strong-worded, banter in between hands is a vital part of the game. However, skill and chance are more than the outcome of the game. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scopa
