Bike Repairs, reasonable!!!

Today we went cycling and stopped at Stratcona park as they had Velopalooza Finale Festival.
This company below was offering this.
Make sure you drop by with your bike! Come and say “hi” and let us have a look at your bike—a quick tune-up or repair, answer questions, or just talk about bikes!
 We got our bikes looked at & as well learnt few things and labour free just paid for an important part, we left 1 bike with him and he will deliver it once it is fixed. Again very reasonable!!!!  2 years ago I had another bike shop look at this bike & the cost was as much as a new bike, which I did and kept the old one as a back up.
The fellow is a nice guy who is reasonable, honest and caring.  Beats trying to get a broken bike to a shop when he will come by in his van and repair as his web site says.  Plus he is local.

Tuesday Walking Group 06Oct

Today my little group (Virginia, Lynn & I) went downtown as it was very sunny but cool. Well by the time we got downtown it was cloudy over & cooler!! We did a walk we had done before cause thinking it was to be a sunny day it would have been nice to walk along the waterfront. Wrong!! But we persevered.
We took the #20 Bus & then walked down to the convention centre. As we got there we spotted this first new piece of art called The Drop.
At 20 metres, it's one of the tallest public artworks in Metro Vancouver -- comparable to Janet Echelman's diaphanous Water Sky Garden at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

The next pic is just around the corner from The Drop behind the convention centre. They are building a new water terminal for the float planes with an elevator eventually. The barge for the float planes was originally the but had been moved a bit further away & will be back in their spot in the coming year.

The last pic is of another new piece of art that originally first appeared in Germany in 2007 G-8 Summit.

Afterwards we left the area & made our way to Robson street to A Mcdonalds for a snack & Coffee to warm up. We all headed home afterwards.

Cycling Club

Today Jack & I cycled all the way to Spanish Banks. At 12:49 the tide was at the lowest as you can see. People were able to walk out for quite a ways. As you see I zoomed into the buoy for the large boats & that is 15feet high where by 8pm tonight the tide would be back to proper level.

This group below are at the False Creek Community centre. This a senior group who go Dragon Boating. Good on them.

Stone Soup Festival at Britannia

This East Vancouver tradition marks the beginning of Spring and gives opportunity for the local community to celebrate together. This is our 14th year of bringing community together in celebration of spring, food, the environment and community itself. Stone Soup will celebrate the global diversity of food, the environment and its importance to the ‘culture’ of our community. Stone Soup brings the community together in a quest to sample, explore, create, and experience with features such as: Latin American Foods Feast; Global Food Forum and Artist Talks; Food Workshops; Artist and Musicians; Farmer's Market; Food Film Festival; Crafts and of course FREE SOUP!

Cycle Club

Pic was taken under the trees where they nest & entrance to Lost Lagoon on the way to Stanley Park.

We had a great day to cycle. Weather was perfect & not too hot. We left 1030am & went to Stanley park & back by 3pm. We discovered some interesting sights. As we were entering the park via Lost lagoon we discovered where the Pacific Blue Herons nest. Loads of nest in the trees & the cackling etc... Unfortunately hard to get any great pics due to the foliage of the huge trees. You would see them fly off & too fast to get the camera ready LOL.

Afterwards we made our way down to S-park to cycle the circuit. We stopped at the Totem Poles for a break & afterwards our next stop was Third Beach. We locked up the bikes & walked up to the famous Hollow Tree.

Car-Free Commercial Drive Festival

It's time again for the Mother of All Street Parties, the one that started it all!
In 2007, the Car-Free Commercial Drive Festival gave around 35,000 people a glimpse of urban paradise --TWICE! Even in the pouring rain, people came out to dance in the streets, at this glorious free-for- all street party thrown BY the people of East Van, FOR the people of East Van. This year we will only be doing one Fest, on Car-Free Vancouver Day (June 15) -- but it's going to be a goodie.
This landmark grass-roots phenomenon features roving artists and performers of all flavours, the Healing Garden, Commercial Drive Merchant Market, organization info tables, Special Kidzone, the Cooperative Way, street hockey, tons of babies and dogs, more crazy bikes than you can shake a stick at, and general merry mayhem. Three perfomance stages include the Grandview Live Stage boasting an eclectic mix of local performers; Tribal Harmonix dj dance stage, chill zone by Burn BC (local Burning Man afficionados), Libra Room live stage; and a spokenword stage dishing up spokenword, storytelling, slam poetry and audience activation.
