Thanksgiving & Cycling Today!!!

Today Jack & I went cycling towards Stanley Park & just went a certain distance & cut thru the park. It was a bit chilly this morning. Going thru the park we came up the area where the artist are daily. Below is Art's Artwork. His work is in bas relief folk art. His name is Art Abt living in Delta BC 604-585-1066 if anyone is interested. The work is all hand done, carved & painted & glued together. Very colorful & maybe not every one's taste but the quality of work has to be admired. Takes time to do each one & not mass produces either.

Jack getting the blow to the mouth LOL
These pieces of sculptures are down in the Westend of Vancouver at Denham & Davie St.

CYCLING CLUB AT BRITANNIA

We are a small group (2 of us). We are looking for others to come & join us on Monday morning & sometimes on Wednesday weather permitting. we leave either 10 or 1030am & back by 1pm unless we do a longer ride like to Spanish Banks.

We are not racers but going for a good ride for exercise and socialize as well.

This morning Jack (80+) & I (55+) left from Commercial drive to Stanley Park. I mixed it up a bit this time by going thru Chinatown & Gastown, circling the new Convention centre & then down to Coal Harbour. We stopped at the Totem poles for a break & then continued around the park. As we got to Cambie street bridge we decided to cross it as we , well more I stopped at Maynards. Jack did as well but for a short period & continued on his own home.

I must say that JACK maybe 80+ but is in better shape than some men I know.

If any one wishes to join us call Britannia & leave a message for myself.
The best days to get a hold of me at the centre is Thursday as I do the lunch in the AML. Otherwise Monday or Wednesday with the co-ordinator at the AML.

I am Laurette, volunteer

Cycling Club 55+

Well we are still going cycling on Monday's Jack & Me (Laurette). We are looking for more 55+ persons to join us. I am not saying Seniors cause it is all in the mind! Jack is 80+ & I am 55+. We are both very active & Jack is in great shape & not dwindled at all. We take breaks for the bathroom & rest half way on our trip.
Today my friend Bruce joined us & was great time by all.
We normally leave 1015-1030 am & back by 130-2pm the latest.
Today just getting close to home we stopped at Fujiya Japanese grocery store near my home.
http://www.fujiya.ca/ Inexpensive lunch from 2.95, you can't go wrong.
Hope to see more people join us & contact the centre & leave a message for Laurette to call you for info on our rides.
Today we did from my home (near centre) to Stanley park.

Cycling Club

Today Jack & I cycled all the way to Spanish Banks. At 12:49 the tide was at the lowest as you can see. People were able to walk out for quite a ways. As you see I zoomed into the buoy for the large boats & that is 15feet high where by 8pm tonight the tide would be back to proper level.

This group below are at the False Creek Community centre. This a senior group who go Dragon Boating. Good on them.

Cycling club

Yesterday was our cycling club. Vera, Jack & Laurette (leader). We left 10am from the neighborhood & proceeded to Stanley park. This was Vera's 2ND time out with me. She is nervous in traffic so we were double careful & walked the bikes in certain areas. We did a few rest stops & had a snack at the Totem poles. The park was really busy today with groups & as well parks board doing clean ups & repairs. As we left the park there was this set up & little ones practicing their driving skills. It was sweet to watch & as one of the instructors said after I asked how is their parallel parking, they can't even say on the right side LOL. We finished back at the community centre 115pm.

Cycle Club update

Well with summer here & great weather it is such a pleasure to cycle. Monday is the designated day for my cycle club. Jack is still away & Mona was just to busy to join as she is going away soon. But finally Vera has ventured out. First time she came on a bike ride with me. I took it easy as I didn't want to kill her. LOL But she did pretty well. We made our way to Kits Beach with rest stops. Enjoyed the day & scenery. We had picked up sushi prior to the bike run & ended up having it at the centre for lunch.
We got back to the centre at 1pm & 2 ladies were waiting for us or others for the weekly card games. (whist & 31)
So it was exercise of body & mind. It was Vera's day as well cause she won the games.

Cycle Club

Pic was taken under the trees where they nest & entrance to Lost Lagoon on the way to Stanley Park.

We had a great day to cycle. Weather was perfect & not too hot. We left 1030am & went to Stanley park & back by 3pm. We discovered some interesting sights. As we were entering the park via Lost lagoon we discovered where the Pacific Blue Herons nest. Loads of nest in the trees & the cackling etc... Unfortunately hard to get any great pics due to the foliage of the huge trees. You would see them fly off & too fast to get the camera ready LOL.

Afterwards we made our way down to S-park to cycle the circuit. We stopped at the Totem Poles for a break & afterwards our next stop was Third Beach. We locked up the bikes & walked up to the famous Hollow Tree.

Cycle Club

We officially started cycle club Mon, 26 May. I took the group (3 of us) from the S-centre to Kits Beach with stop at Granville Island. After that we made our way to Chinatown & had lunch in the food court of Tinseltown Mall. While in Chinatown I took them to Shanghai Alley which was very interesting as it has on display in a small courtyard the history of Chinatown & the immigrants.

On Wed., 28 May we went out again to do the circuit around Stanley Park. Mona was a bit concerned that it might be too far but I assured her that we would stop for breaks & it was flat. We stopped at the Totem poles for a lunch we packed. It was an easy ride & everyone survived as I took it easy.

Jack's comment "More fun to cycle with others". We all agree on that & as well it is a buddy system for safety & security.

We are now waiting for better weather & Vera to join us. Others are welcome, Never to late.
