Heat Wave

Due to this heat wave the cycle & walking group for Monday & Tuesday were cancelled. This is not health & the warning is from11-3 stay indoors or in shaded areas.
This is normal weather for eastern Canada this time of year & they are having our weather.
Sorry folks but lets face it this is not comfortable or healthy.
Drink lots of water & don't over exert yourself.

Senior Discounts

Please when you are shopping in most major stores do not hesitate to ask if they give senior discounts & if not that day on what days if they do. Some stores will give you if you are 55 plus, some you must be 64 plus. It cost nothing to ask & you may gain by it.

If you get a coffee at McDonald's, Burger King & any other fast food ask for Senior's coffee.

You will pay from .50 to .90!!! Depending on the eatery.

Senior discount

Next time you are a Mcdonalds & order a small coffee ($1.29) ask for your senior discount! You will pay around .89 cents!! No you don't see written anywhere but they will.

Snow, so no Walking Club

Well folks the walking club showed up at the lounge & I was free to stop by today so we just chatted & sat around. With this weather & snowfall it is not safe to go for walks as sidewalks are not cleaned & slippery & no one wants to fall & break or sprain something.
Got to see Flora who I don't see during the week cause she works & she has lost a fair amount of weight thru exercise & proper eating habits. She is looking good. Very proud of her.

Do you any of you remember reading my poem "ODE TO A "BOOB" back in June/July? I was diagnosed with breast cancer & had to have a mastectomy. This was my way of dealing with this devastating news, with humour! Well, just to let you now I am now a published author! Look in the fall issue of "A BREAST In The WEST" newsletter. My poem is on the last page up at the top. What an honour as this is the very first time any of my work has been seen in print. If this helps any other woman going through this ordeal I will be very happy.

Lee did the "RUN for the CURE" (breast cancer run) yesterday & beat her time from last year! She ran quite a bit of it & her old body is complaining today! She doesn't run (train) anymore just power walks but her competitive side shines through!
Bigger turn out this year & more pink shirts. Survivors are so very grateful!

This is a senior lady who comes to Brit pool regularly & as well had her art on display one Sunday with other artist at the ARTFUL SUNDAYS 2008 in Napier Square (Napier at Commercial Dr) featuring the work of local artists, artist demonstrations and workshops, live music.

Free Geek Vancouver is a nonprofit computer recycling and reuse centre, where the community can pitch in to help test, refurbish or dismantle unwanted computer equipment donated by the public. As a straight woman I attended this performance described below in support of friends. Even though it was an amatuer show it made you aware of things, of their lives & frustrations. It brought a tear to my eye a few times. I applaud them to be able to stand up there & bear their souls. It took guts.
