What with the unsettled weather this past month and different members of our group having previous commitments, we've had no serious walks in March ... today Lorna and Virginia (me) took the bus down to Granville Street where the Juno Fanfare was set up in anticipation of tonight's Juno Awards Ceremony.
The Fanfare was in a long tent with five tables set up behind barricades ... on entering, we were given a colored wrist band and were invited to line up in rows at the far end of the tent ... there were about 200 young people waiting in those rows to meet their favorite music entertainers at one of the five tables ... these entertainment individuals and groups were among the nominees for the awards .
Lorna and I explained at the entrance that we had no idea who any of these entertainers were, we were just curious to know what was happening ... as it happened, we got free Kit Kat chocolate bars and discount scratch cards for West Jet flights ... West Jet is one of the sponsors of the Juno Awards and was giving away a dozen free flights as well as hundreds of discounts of 5% and 10% ... we went back several times for Kit Kats and to see if we could win a free flight ... we got the extra Kit Kats but no free flights ... outside was raining off and on and at one point the droplets turned icy then stopped ... after an hour, we left ...
Next week, we plan to meet at Canada Place and walk along Coal Harbour which has been redeveloped with wide walkways, gardens, benches and sculptures past the Westin Bayshore Inn and the marina ... I did this walk two weeks ago with Laurette ... her writeup and photos are in the seniors blog ...
Until next time, in the spirit of St. Patrick's Irish, may the road rise to meet you, the sun be in your face, and the wind at your back, as you travel Life's roads {I apologize if the quote is inaccurate, however the intent is well meant} ...
