Today our small group (Virginia, Patricia & me) went down to Canada Place to start our walk. On our way to the waterfront we passed this large building (pic 1) nearly done. This will be Vancouver's New Convention centre http://www.vccep.bc.ca/ for details & proposed finished look. We then walked along Coal Harbour to Denman Street for a coffee.
On our way thru Coal Harbour we found this lovely waterfall fall between 2 buildings with a statue at the top. As you may notice the water was frozen in a few places. It has been pretty cold the last couple of days &warming up to normal later this week.
Coal Harbour is the name for a section of Burrard Inlet lying between Vancouver, Canada's downtown peninsula and the Brockton Peninsula of Stanley Park. It is also in recent years the name of the neighbourhood adjacent to its southern shoreline, which was redeveloped as an upscale high-rise condominium district in the 1990s.
The harbour is bounded by the Financial District to the south and Stanley Park to the north. To the east is Deadman's Island, the site of the naval station/museum HMCS Discovery, where the harbour opens up to the Burrard Inlet. The discovery of coal in the harbour in 1862 inspired the name. Within the harbour is a floating gas station for marine vessels.
After our coffee we went up to Barclay Manor to visit with Anne Jackson who is temporally working there for 3 months. She had been at the Al Mattison for 22 years. Change of pace for her. Beautiful hertiage building. http://vancouver.ca/parks/cc/westend/website/facilities_BarclayManor.html
